Wide Receiver Steve Smith Returns to Carolina Panthers Team:
After two exciting game winning touchdowns, the Carolina Panthers have increased their record to 2-0 minus team favorite wide receiver Steve Smith. (Should this be a hint to keep him out? Maybe not.) A few weeks prior to the Week One game, Steve Smith was suspended for breaking teammate Ken Lucas’ nose during training camp.
Question is can the team get past the hard feelings and tension that may arise from Steve Smith’s return? Will Smith and Lucas work on connecting again on and off the field? The day after the incident, Smith apologized to his teammates. Lucas supposedly accepted the apology.
The training camp incident led to Smith’s two-game suspension. Fortunately, though the Panthers struggled to close out both games with no fight, the team gained a 2-0 record without the help of their favorite wide receiver. During Week One versus the San Diego Chargers, the Panthers stunned their opponent with a 14-year touchdown pass to Dante Rosario as time expired.
Their Week Two game versus the Chicago Bears at home truly showed what kind of team they can be. Rising from the ashes, the Panthers came back during the second half of the game from 17-3 deficit to win the game. The turning point in the season will come next week when Smith will play his first game of the season against the Minnesota Vikings.
Born on May 12, 1979 in Los Angeles, California, Smith went on to attend college at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
